S.A.F.E Initiative

For some, having HIV/AIDS is like being alone in the dark.

For others, not having an UNDERSTANDING or HIV/AIDS and its prevention KEEPS them in the dark.

Since 1977, Phi Delta Psi, Fraternity Incorporated’s concept of a logical progression from individual self improvement to the larger goal of social betterment for the masses have transcended the reaches of conventional brotherhood and now encompasses everyday facets of life. The key to this progression is education, the proven way to break the cycle of poverty, discrimination and deprivation of our rights. (Education is not only important in the academic sense but is imperative on a social level in terms of building awareness that in turn allows people to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles in life, such as the contraction of a terminal disease such as HIV/AIDS.) suggestion for filling in the gray area between school education and aids awareness/educating to allow it to relate more fully to this topic.

According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children. During 2007 some 2.5 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35.

Around 95% of people with HIV/AIDS live in developing nations. But HIV today is a threat to men, women and children on all continents around the world.

Phi Delta Psi Stopping Aids by Forever Educating or S.A.F.E Initiative will be about raising money, increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education for HIV/AIDS. The S.A.F.E. Initiative is important in reminding people that HIV has not gone away, and that there are many things still to be done.
